How Our Story Began
We embarked on the venture of Butoiul de Aur with excitement and reverence – how could we revive a name that has been part of the city's history for half a millennium?
And because we love a challenge, we chose to continue writing our story HERE.
We, Oana and Daniele, a family with love for beer, people, and places with an authentic spirit.
We thought of this place as a rare, unpolished gem, tucked away in a corner of the city, so we decided to show everyone what a treasure it really is, because authenticity is non-negotiable.
We rolled up our sleeves and got to work, contributing our energy and experience, as well as our beer, Nembeer, brewed in Sibiu and loved by locals and tourists alike.
Now, thanks to a vibrant and enthusiastic team, excellent beer and authentic, delicious culinary treats, Romania's oldest restaurant exudes a warm, cheerful and friendly ambiance.
We are proud to have turned it into a popular culinary landmark, a must-visit place for anyone exploring the charms of Sibiu's Old City.
Today, Butoiul de Aur thrives on the positive energy of those of you, excitedly reading this text, and on the laughs and happiness of our customers, as they cross our doorstep time and time again.
And above all, on the common sense, now deeply rooted in the minds of our fellow townsfolk, that with a change of vision and a lot of hard work, we were able to bring back to life this symbol of Sibiu's centuries-old history and untold stories:
